I was born two and a half months premature weighing only 2lb 6oz. My school life was ok, I enjoyed mixing with other people but liked being on my own too. When I was 14 a girl called Jackie started at my school and that was it, I started smoking, didn’t bother going to school, thought life was great. I stopped at her house one night. We were going Xmas shopping the next day and it was that day that changed my life. We were on our way home, got off the bus, were crossing the road, ran when we saw a car, I hesitated and it hit me. I was in hospital for four months after that, felt quite lonely, the only friend that came to see me was another girl from school Melissa. Jackie only came up once when I was asleep which upset me a bit. I think I thought life was going to be exactly the same when I left the hospital, friends, going out, but it wasn’t. It stood still for a while, had no friends, felt very lonely. I took it out on mom a lot too, I was always rowing with her and would then go upstairs crying. One day I think she’d had enough of seeing me like this and phoned a number she had been given from the hospital and they put her in touch with Moor Green. I was nervous about starting at first, didn’t think it’d do me much good, was too stuck in my ways I suppose. I’m glad I started now though. Been here about 10 months, made some friends, met a lovely man and am finally looking forward to the future ‘cause as they say things can only get better!
